Built in 1587 and altered in 1592, the Rose Playhouse, shown here from the Royal Surveyor John Norden's panorama of London from 1592, stood several hundred yards from the eventual site of the Globe. Marlowe's Dr. Faustus, and Shakespeare's first tragedy, Titus Andronicus, probably premiered there. |
